Toledo to mark Arbor Day by planting cherry trees

4/3/2013

Toledo will mark Arbor Day this year by planting about 50 blossoming cherry trees in honor of former city residents who died in military conflict.

The city said it is inviting family members of fallen servicemen and women to participate in an April 29 ceremony at a Veterans Memorial Grove in the Parkside Boulevard median between Dorr Street and Mount Vernon Avenue in West Toledo.

The trees will replace ones cleared by recent utility work.

Those who wish to participate are to provide information about the veteran to be memorialized. Applications are due April 19. They are available online at www.toledo.oh.gov or by contacting the city parks, recreation, and forestry division at 419-245-3357.
