Flooding closes streets, delays schools in Hancock County
4/12/2013FINDLAY — Flooding caused school delays and disrupted traffic in Hancock County today, with several main roads closed and more than a dozen smaller roads also affected by high water largely brought up by the rain-swollen waters of the Blanchard River, authorities said.
In Findlay, a number of streets were closed but no major flood-related problems downtown were reported as of about 8 a.m., according to a police dispatcher.
■ State Rt. 568 between Marion Township roads 234 and 231
■ County Road 75 between County Road 40 and County Road 45
■ County Road 40 between County Road 75 and U.S. 68
■ County Road 45 between County Road 75 and County Road 7
■ County Road 7 between State Rt. 568 and County Road 248
■ Marion Township Road 208 between Township roads 234 and 235.
Additionally, between 15 and 20 smaller roads were closed throughout the county, a sheriff's dispatcher said.
Tom Kines, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather, a private weather forecasting service based in State College, Pa., said the flooding was caused by between an inch and an inch-and-a-half of rain that fell in the area from Thursday night to Friday morning. The Blanchard River caused most of the flooding, being between three and four feet above the flooding stage, Mr. Kines said.
The flooding will likely continue until Saturday when the Blanchard River was expected to go below the flood stage, the senior meteorologist said.
