Public comments sought on zoning-code changes
Vehicle storage, use of illuminated lights up for discussion
4/28/2013Sylvania City Council will hold two public hearings May 6 about proposed amendments to zoning codes concerning the storage of recreational vehicles and businesses’ use of illuminated or neon lights near a residential district.
At 6:30 p.m., residents can express concerns about a proposed change to a section of the planning and zoning code that would require recreational vehicles, boats, and trailers to be stored 3 feet from property lines.
At 7 p.m., council will hear concerns about changes to the zoning code that regulates neon lights. Proposed changes to the ordinance were spurred by Flower Hospital’s use of green neon lights that disturbed some residents living near the hospital’s campus on Harroun Road.
Council proposes an ordinance that would prevent businesses from installing neon lights on facades that face residential districts. Doug Haynam, chairman of the zoning and annexation committee, said if the ordinance is enacted, it would not affect lights already in place.
