PAULDING, Ohio — Paulding County commissioners are eliminating the county’s dog warden position and will shift the duties to the sheriff’s office effective July 1.

The unanimous motion passed Wednesday. The assistant dog warden’s last day will be May 31, and dog warden Georgia Dyson’s last day is June 30.

“The commissioners are confident this change will promote efficiency and provide 24/7 service to the county residents,” a news release from the commissioners said. Ms. Dyson was paid $31,085 annually, according to county records.

Ms. Dyson appears to be widely supported in the community as many residents registered dismay Wednesday on various social media Web sites. Ms. Dyson, who was hired in December, 2010, has not euthanized a dog at the pound since August.
