State plans to rebuild the Central Avenue interchange on I-475/U.S. 23 in Sylvania Township will be the subject of an “open-house” meeting Wednesday evening at the township hall.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has chosen a “single-point” interchange as its preferred alternative for the often-congested interchange.

Such interchanges have a central ramp intersection below or, in this case, on the bridge over the freeway rather than having separate intersections on either side of the freeway. The design reduces congestion by allowing certain left turns that would otherwise conflict with each other to occur simultaneously.

No formal presentation is planned during the session, scheduled to open at 4 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. Instead, ODOT and its consultants will post exhibits about its proposal with staff stationed nearby to answer questions and receive comments.

ODOT also will accept written comments about the project during the meeting and afterward, through May 29 at its district office, 317 E. Poe Rd., Bowling Green.
