Children gather for Sylvania Memorial Day parade

A little rain this morning didn't stop hundreds of people from lining Main Street in Sylvania for the annual Memorial Day Parade.

"It's just drizzling," said Ani Bowman, 5, of North Royalton, Ohio, who was in town with her family visiting grandma.

Ani and her sister, Taleen, 7, were with their parents Seta Tchobanian and Rodney Boman.

Using a broken umbrella with an American flag design, Taleen said she was looking forward to seeing "stuff that I can remember" -- like veterans and some of the important American symbols she learned about in school.

The four she noted from class: a bald eagle, Statue of Liberty, American flag, and the White House. She wanted to add her own, too, citing and rambling off facts about the Lincoln Memorial and Liberty Bell.

"It cracked a long time ago and they tried to fix it but it broke again," she said of the Liberty Bell.

The parade, led by Sylvania police, included a three-round volley (which startled more than a few children), patriotic tunes and appearances by local groups like the Sylvania Twirling Stars, beauty queens, and numerous politicians.
