The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles Deputy Registrar Agency in South Toledo will close at the end of business at noon on June 29, officials said today.

The office at 2857 Airport Hwy., Suite F, is closing in response to several factors, Dustyn Fox, a BMV spokesman, said.

“The BMV has been undergoing a comprehensive overview of its operations,” he said, which included the number of customers the location receives, its annual transactions and the proximity to other branches, he said. He was unable to provide specific customer or transaction numbers.

Lucas County has five other deputy registrar license agencies; the Airport Highway location is four miles away from the nearest agency office.

“We do look at a lot of different criteria. It's not something we just look at haphazardly," he said.

Mr. Fox said the most important aspect is to ensure an effective operation for customers.

He said those employed by the office are not state employees, so he could not comment on how many employeed would be potentially affected or whether they would be transferred to other locations.

The agency currently is not planning to close additional locations in the northwest Ohio area.

“As of right now, this is the only one that we have on the horizon. Again, those types of things are looked at on a continual basis, so as contracts come up, we review them to make sure that we do have the appropriate coverage for our customers,” Mr. Fox said.

There are six locations within a 12-mile radius of the existing agency office that customers can use after the closure: 1600 Madison Ave., 4925 Jackman Rd., 4460 Heatherdowns Blvd., 3016 Navarre Ave., 26611 N. Dixie Hwy., Suite 125, and 4900 North McCord Rd.
