After the official start of summer today and the more than 15 hours of daylight that comes with it, the Toledo area will begin to feel the heat this weekend.

The summer solstice was at 1:04 a.m. today, according to the U.S. Naval Observatory. The solstice is the moment the Earth’s tilt toward the sun is at a maximum, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The solstice marks the most amount of sunlight of the entire year in the Northern Hemisphere. Sunrise in Toledo was at 6 a.m. and sunset is at 9:12 p.m. today, according to the observatory. The amount of daylight in the hemisphere will decrease each day from today until the winter solstice on Dec. 21.

After a mild week, temperatures will creep up today, the National Weather Service forecasts. A high of 86 degrees is predicted for today, followed by highs of 87 and 88 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, before temperatures possibly break the 90-degree mark Monday and Tuesday.
