Water main break closes part of street in Point Place

A water main break closed part of Edgewater Drive in Point Place this morning, authorities said.

Toledo police arrived minutes after receiving a call from a passerby about 5:10 a.m. and closed the street's 5500 block, near Edgewater School. One southbound lane was opened to intermittent traffic in both directions about 7:30 a.m., police said.

About two hours later, repair crews were still on the scene. Neighbors said the incident initially caused pavement to buckle up about four feet high, with water shooting up about 30 feet an hour later.

Neighbors reported losing their water service about 6 a.m., at which time the water main was shut off.
