The Andersons is hosting the sixth annual high-flying Ultimate Air Dogs today and Sunday at 530 Illinois Ave.
The dogs, including local entrants, will run down a 40-foot dock and dive into a 30,000-gallon swimming pool. The goal is distance, with some dogs reaching more than 28 feet. Local dogs may be registered for a $20 fee. The group is run by Milt Wilcox, a former Detroit Tigers pitcher.
Dogs of all breeds, shapes, and sizes will compete against each other in long-distance diving in rounds of competition called “splashes.”
Today, splashes will take place at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m. On Sunday, there will be splashes at noon and 2 p.m., with the finals taking place at 4 p.m.
