Downtown gas leak repaired; streets reopen

9/7/2013

Two downtown Toledo streets were reopened Friday evening after repairs were completed to a gas leak that affected 81 Columbia Gas customers on Thursday.

Chris Kozak, a Columbia Gas spokesman, said the leak at St. Clair and Washington streets may have been caused by a contractor. Gas service to a few buildings had not been restored because no one was available to let utility workers in to relight pilot lights.

Washington was closed between Huron and Summit streets until after sunset, as was St. Clair near Washington. The reopening was delayed to reset decorative crosswalk bricks at the St. Clair-Washington intersection.

Columbia Gas was to investigate to determine if the excavation company requested line marking from the Ohio Utility Protection Service. Mr. Kozak said he had not been told who was digging or why.
