Fremont reservoir open to small-motor boats

FREMONT — Boaters eager to explore the Fremont reservoir can start their engines.

The 100-acre reservoir opened Friday to gas-powered boats with motors not exceeding 10 horsepower and equivalent electric-motor boats.

Fremont City Council in August approved allowing small boats to operate at no-wake speeds, though the decision displeased some who don’t think it’s an appropriate use for the reservoir built as a source of drinking water.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, which pushed the city to allow boats, plans to stock the reservoir, off Sandusky County Road 41, with more than 100,000 small yellow perch on Tuesday.
