The attorney representing a 14-year-old rape suspect filed a motion Tuesday to suppress statements the youth made to police. Ronnie Wingate filed the motion with the Lucas County juvenile court clerk’s office he said during a pretrial hearing.

The teen and a 17-year-old boy, both students at Southview High School, each are accused of raping a 15-year-old girl, also a student at the school.

A hearing for the suppression motion was scheduled for Oct. 22.

Mr. Wingate also asked Judge Connie Zemmelman to consider letting the 14-year-old boy out of detention and to be placed on house arrest. The judge denied the request.

The 17-year-old, who is also charged with kidnapping, remains in detention as well.

The rape was reported to Sylvania police on Sept. 16. The victim told police she was raped at Olander Park sometime shortly after school let out for the day.
