Sirens within 10 miles of Davis-Besse to be tested

10/18/2013

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office plans to test the Emergency Planning Zone sirens for the Davis-Besse nuclear power plant today.

The 54 sirens in a 10-mile radius of the plant are to sound for three minutes starting at noon. Except for five in Lucas County's Jerusalem Township, all sirens are in Ottawa County.

The annual test is required by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. People who notice a nonworking siren should report it to the sheriff's office.
