Woman’s death under investigation

FOSTORIA — Seneca County authorities are investigating a Fostoria woman’s death from a gunshot wound Friday as suspicious.

Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Kevin Reinbolt said that Brenda Lonsway, 63, was found shortly before 4 a.m. at the home she shared with her husband, Greg, at 4581 N. U.S.-23 near County Road 28, north of Fostoria. She had a gunshot wound to her chest and a gun was nearby.

Mr. Lonsway, a self-employed electrician in his mid-60s, had called 911 to alert Fostoria police, who then called sheriff’s deputies. He was questioned and released, Sergeant Reinbolt said.

The cause of death is pending an autopsy which will be conducted by the Lucas County Coroner's office.

“This is a suspicious, questionable death,” Sergeant Reinbolt said. “There’s a lot of questions to be answered. ...The biggest thing is to wait for the evidence and the autopsy.”

The evidence would be associated with the handgun, he said.

A person who answered the door at the family home would not comment. The couple has an adult son, who lives separately, the sergeant said.

Fostoria is about 35 miles southeast of Toledo.
