WILLARD, Ohio — The last of three main tracks closed at the CSX Transportation railroad yard after a chemical spill last week in Willard reopened late Monday night, the railroad reported Tuesday.

“We are still doing some spot work” to remove remaining soil contaminated with styrene monomer, an industrial chemical used to make plastics and synthetic rubber, that spilled from a tank car that ruptured during a Nov. 26 derailment, CSX spokesman Gary Sease said.

Air monitoring in the area continued Tuesday to show no lingering vapors from the spill, which prompted local authorities to evacuate about 400 nearby homes early last Wednesday. Most residents were allowed home on Thanksgiving afternoon, but several dozen homes closest to the spill remained off-limits until Saturday. No one was injured.
