An autopsy is to be performed today on the body of a man who was struck by a tractor-trailer Thursday night while walking in a travel lane of southbound U.S. 23 in Sylvania.

Dr. Cynthia Beisser, an assistant Lucas County coroner, said efforts continue to identify the man, who carried no identification, and to determine why he was walking along the freeway.

The man was hit about 10:10 p.m. south of the Monroe Street interchange. Sylvania police closed the southbound lanes for several hours afterward to investigate.

The truck driver was not hurt, and police said no charges have been filed.
