Contraband discovered during prison search

12/13/2013

Contraband was found in the Toledo Correctional Institution during a lockdown and search on Thursday, officials said.

Spokesman Darlene Mitchell said she could not comment on what was found, citing “security reasons.”

The searches are supposed to be done randomly every year, though the last official major shakedown was in 2011, she said. There was a lockdown and search in 2012 after the prison received telephone threats.

The prison on Thursday went into lockdown at about 8 a.m. and normal operations resumed at about 5 p.m.

More than 100 state troopers and corrections officers assisted during the search.
