Car-crushing sparks blast on north side
12/19/2013The mystery boom that shook walls and rattled nerves in North and East Toledo, Point Place, and Washington Township was nothing more than a little gas — as in gasoline — authorities said.
Toledo police and the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office started getting phone reports of an explosion about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday. Sheriff’s dispatchers said that OmniSource Corp., a metal recycling business on North Detroit Avenue, was crushing cars when gasoline vapors in one of the vehicles detonated.
No injuries were reported.
