MONROE -- Monroe County officials met today to evaluate the handling of emergency services, snow plowing, and other issues during the big snow storm and ensuing bitter cold that paralyzed the county.

The consensus of the officials was they should have had a planning session as the storm approached the area on Sunday and issued a travel advisory to keep vehicles off roads before the snow storm struck.

Such measures, they said, could have reduced the number of cars and trucks that were abandoned or stuck in snow and drifts, which hindered the county Road Commission's efforts to plow the roads.
