New signage on tap for 2 Wood, Seneca crossings

New warning lights and gates are to be installed at two rural railroad crossings in Wood and Seneca counties within the next nine months under orders approved last week by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.

Federal funds are to pay for the new warning devices on Garling Road, in Wood County’s Troy Township, at the CSX Transportation crossing east of Lemoyne Road and on Havana-Hensinger Road, in Seneca County's Reed Township, at the Norfolk Southern crossing west of State Rt. 4.

Both crossings now have only crossbucks signs, and the roads cross busy double-track main lines at each location.

Warning lights and gates typically cost about $150,000 per crossing for materials and installation. Once installed, the devices' maintenance becomes the railroads’ responsibility. The railroads have until Oct. 8 to complete the work.
