ODOT to describe work on I-75 interchange in Findlay

FINDLAY — Details of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s plans for rebuilding I-75’s U.S. 224 interchange in Findlay will be presented during a public meeting Thursday evening.

Miller Brothers Construction Inc. of Archbold is scheduled to start work next month on its $10.6 million state contract, with traffic on U.S. 224 “significantly affected” within several weeks of the start, according to an ODOT statement.

“This is a project which will impact the Findlay area. It’s important for the public and local businesses to attend the meeting and to learn what will take place,” said Kirk Slusher, ODOT’s district deputy director in Lima.

The 6 p.m. meeting in Room EC 111 at Owens Community College’s Findlay campus, 3200 Bright Rd., will start with a formal presentation and followed by a question period. Displays explaining the construction will be set up.

The centerpiece is rebuilding the U.S. 224 bridge over I-75. The new bridge will have six lanes, not five, including a full-length left-turn lane in each direction. Interchange ramps will be rebuilt, and traffic signals replaced.

The U.S. 224 project is expected to be done by year end. ODOT plans to widen I-75 through Findlay from four lanes to six.

That $150 million project is set to start in 2017 but could start next year if funds are available. It will include rebuilding the I-75 junction with U.S. 68/​State Rt. 15 on Findlay’s south side.
