The Toledo Hearing and Speech Center is to close because of financial reasons.

Leaders of the non-profit Toledo Hearing and Speech Center announced today that they will shut down at the end of business Friday.

Board members cited several different financial factors for the closure, including the loss of funding structures, including local funding. Other issues cited included a decrease in Medicaid reimbursements and the overall expense of running the center.

“Our staff has worked hard for several years trying to find the most cost effective ways to run the center and service the children of northwest Ohio with the speech, audiology and occupational therapy needs,” THSC Board President Matthew Detrick said in a prepared statement. “Despite the support of the families and communities we serve, unfortunately at this time all options have been exhausted and we make this move with heavy hearts.”

The Toledo and Hearing Speech Center served more than 700 children, including those in both public and charter schools.
