Lucas County Canine Care & Control has been awarded a grant by Pet-Smart Charities for a special spay/neuter program.

Residents in the 43608 ZIP code can spay or neuter their dog — any breed — for $15 at Humane Ohio, a spay/neuter clinic in Toledo. The cost includes a microchip, and allows for the spay or neuter of 400 dogs with a current 2014 license.

Dog owners should call Humane Ohio, 419-266-5607, for an appointment and must mention the special grant for the 43608 ZIP code to take advantage of the reduced cost. Owners must provide proof of residency and of a 2014 license for each dog being altered.

Licenses are available at the Lucas County Canine Care Center, 410 S. Erie St.
