FOSTORIA — Fostoria Area Habitat for Humanity plans to purchase a 3-acre property where the demolished Field Elementary School had stood.

The group’s winning bid for the property on Sixth Street near downtown Fostoria was $12,000. Sandy Coleman, president of the Habitat for Humanity board, expects the deal with Fostoria City Schools to be finalized in a couple of weeks.

Habitat for Humanity plans to build at least six, single-family houses, Ms. Coleman said. Most will be three-bedroom residences. The group plans to build a house on the site every other year, starting in 2016.

The property is suitable because it is in a neighborhood and close to downtown amenities, Ms. Coleman said.

Fostoria is about an hour's drive from Toledo.
