The city of Perrysburg used a new record of 5,800 tons of salt this winter, so preparing for next year it entered in an agreement with the Ohio Department of Transportation for 5,000 tons next year. That will go along with the 500 tons the city currently has.

The City Council passed the agreement 7-0. The city’s shed can hold 2,500 tons, it will be filled with a summer order of 2,000 tons. Then as needed in the winter there will be 3,000 more tons available to order through ODOT.

Jon Eckel, director of public services for the city, said the only downside to having that many tons contracted to purchase is if the city doesn’t use enough it must pay for storage — but it is far less than buying salt out of contract.

The council also approved the purchase of a 2015 Ford F-350 for $27,760 from Walt Sweeney Ford in Cincinnati. It is replacing a Ford extended cab pickup that was more than 13 years old and sold at an auction.
