Kelli Fitzpatrick, a senior magazine journalism student at Kent State University, has been named this year’s recipient of the Marge McNab Block Award.

The award — $1,000 from The Blade — is presented yearly to Kent’s graduating senior woman in news with the highest grade-point average.

Miss Fitzpatrick of New Middletown, Ohio, is a public relations intern this semester with Flash Communications in the University Communications and Marketing building.

She also is managing editor of Fusion magazine and editor-in-chief of Branches magazine, an iPad publication produced through a mobile publishing course.

She was an intern in the summer of 2013 at Reader’s Digest magazine through the American Society of Magazine Editors program.

After graduation, Miss Fitzpatrick plans to intern at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., where she will write and design projects for Hollywood Studios.

The Marge McNab Block Award is named for the late Mrs. Block, a Kent State graduate who was a reporter and director of features and women’s news at The Blade.

Her husband was Paul Block, Jr., co-publisher of The Blade from 1942 until his death in 1987.
