Battlefield Park to host spring open house

The River Raisin National Battlefield Park will hold a spring open house Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and that same day participate in the National Park Trust’s Kids to Parks Day, a nationwide event to encourage children to explore parks and public lands to learn about science and history and participate in recreational activities.

Events will include a living-history encampment, military-weapons display, open-fire cooking, a period-food display, an herbal-medicine display, storytelling, and bicycle-safety training. There will be an archaeology field school at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and black powder-firing demonstrations at 11:30, 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30. The visitors center is open from 9 to 5.
