Crissey Road OK for trains, not vehicles
7/9/2014Trains have returned to full speed on one of two tracks at the scene of a derailment last week in Springfield Township, but authorities do not yet know when the Crissey Road grade crossing will reopen to traffic.
Norfolk Southern lifted a 25-mph speed limit on the northerly of its two main tracks through the area where 16 cars of an eastbound freight train jumped the rails July 3. The 25-mph limit remained in effect on the southerly track — the one the derailed train was using.
By Tuesday afternoon, 10 wrecked freight cars remained at the scene, all but one between the southerly track and Old Airport Highway on each side of Crissey Road. A replacement warning gate and new control shed have been installed at the crossing, but the crossing pavement remained to be rebuilt.
Old Airport Highway also remained closed Tuesday near Crissey Road.
