Area man indicted in rape of teen girl

A Springfield Township man accused of raping a mentally handicapped girl was indicted Wednesday on three counts of rape of a victim with a mental or physical disability.

Tyrell Smith, 23, of 1800 N. McCord Rd., was arrested last week on rape charges after the 17-year-old victim told police she complied with an attacker’s demands, fearing he would harm her.

He is held in the Lucas County jail on a $750,000 bond.
