A man accused of taking a woman’s ‍4½-month-old son from an East Toledo hotel room was arraigned Wednesday in Toledo Municipal Court.

Jaequan Smith, 19, of 3221 Mulberry St. is charged with kidnapping and burglary. His bond was set at $150,000. He remained in the Lucas County jail.

Kayla Price told police she left her hotel room at Days Inn, 1800 Miami St., with the infant’s father about 6 a.m. Monday. She told police she left the boy alone because he was sleeping, said police Sgt. Joe Heffernan. While she was gone, police allege that Mr. Smith went into the room several times and took property.

The last time he was in the room, he left with the boy, who was in a car seat, and Ms. Price’s purse, handbag, and diaper bag, according to an affidavit. Ms. Price was returning to her room when she saw the suspect, who reportedly gave back what he had and walked away.
