The cost of parking in the small lot closest to the Toledo Zoo’s original entrance off Broadway will not change — at least for now.

Toledo City Councilen rejected the zoo’‍s proposal Tuesday to take over management of the lot. Some expressed concerns about the potential impact on senior citizens, handicapped residents, or those on fixed incomes if the zoo raised rates or collected the fee more often than it’s collected now.

Zoo patrons are currently charged no more than $5 a spot in the city-owned parking lot. The fee often is not collected during off-peak periods.

The zoo had offered the city $20,000 a year for the next two years to take over the lot, north of Walbridge Park.
