The Lucas County Commissioners said they will take action during a special meeting today to address the recent algae-induced water crisis .

In a meeting this morning with The Blade‘‍s editorial board, the commissioners said they plan to adopt a resolution calling for the implementation of the International Joint Commission's 2014 report on reducing phosphorous loadings and harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie.

Commissioner Pete Gerken said the resolution includes 16 recommendations in the report that was released in February.

"It is tough work worth doing," he said.

A second resolution on the commissioner's agenda calls for spending up to $100,000 for implementation of the source water action plan that is part of the Toledo-Lucas County Sustainability Plan.

The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. in the commissioners’‍ hearing room on the first floor of One Government Center.
