Toledo casino leads state in monthly gains

    • Three of Ohio’s four full-service gambling houses reported revenue gains in September over the same month last year.

    Figures released Tuesday by the Ohio Casino Control Commission, the state body that regulates the industry, place 2017 revenue through September at $615.9 million. Year-to-date figures show a statewide rise of about $9.1 million, or 1.5 percent, through the first nine months of the year compared to the $606.8 million collected in the same period in 2016.

    Hollywood Casino Toledo posted the largest monthly increase of the four casinos. The local business garnered $16.3 million last month, a rise of about $1.5 million or 10.5 percent from the $14.7 million earned the same month last year. Through September, the casino has reported revenues of $150.1 million this year, up about $3.4 million or 2.3 percent from $146.8 million during same period in 2016.

    Hollywood Casino Columbus collected $18.3 million last month, a boost of $1.5 million or 9.2 percent from $16.8 million in September, 2016. The casino’s year-to-date $166.9 million total is an increase of $6.1 million or 3.8 percent over last year’s $160.8 million.

    Jack Casino Cincinnati reported September revenues of $15.7 million this year, a comparatively modest jump of $455,285 or 3 percent over the $15.3 million pulled in the same month last year. The gambling outfit’s $148.8 million total through September this year represents an increase of $5.5 million or 3.9 percent over the $143.3 million in revenue in the same period of 2016.

    Jack Casino Cleveland was the lone state casino to report a decline in September earnings. The casino reported revenue of $16.8 million last month, a slip of $307,919 or 1.8 percent from the $17.1 million collected in September last year. The northeast Ohio casino’s year-to-date revenues are likewise down at $150 million the first nine months of this year compared to just less than $156 million during the same period last year, a drop of nearly $6 million or 3.8 percent.

    The monthly reports from the state include only revenue from gambling. Food, drink, merchandise, and event sales figures are not included.
