Perrysburg farmer awarded for conservation efforts

A fifth-generation farmer from the Perrysburg area has received a national award for his conservation efforts.

Kris Swartz, who also serves as supervisor of the Wood County Soil and Water Conservation District, was named this year’s recipient of the Olin Sims Conservation Leadership Award from the National Association of Conservation Districts at its 72nd annual meeting in Nashville recently.

The award, made in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, recognizes a person, district or organization for outstanding efforts in promoting conservation on private land. Mr. Swartz, past president of the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, was lauded for efforts to improve the region’s water quality through better soil retention.

Mr. Swartz and his wife, Sue, operate a 2,000-acre farm in northern Wood County, where they grow soybeans, corn, and wheat.
