Tom Bridgeman, the University of Toledo’s best-known algae researcher and a limnologist in the school’s Department of Environmental Sciences, has been named the next director of UT’s Lake Erie Center in Oregon.

Mr. Bridgeman said Friday he will replace interim LEC director Timothy Fisher in about a month. The announcement was made Friday by Sandy Bihn, Lake Erie Foundation executive director, as she introduced Mr. Bridgeman to about 60 people attending the organization’s annual conference at the W.W. Knight Preserve in Perrysburg.

More about the appointment is expected Tuesday, when UT plans to make the official announcement, university spokesman Meghan Cunningham said.
