A 17-year-old Toledoan, who was recently certified in juvenile court to stand trial as an adult, was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury Wednesday on a charge of involuntary manslaughter related to a 2010 death.

Marques Torres of Buckeye Street was charged for the May 15, 2010, death of Gabriel Morales, 42, who was found in East Toledo near Raymer Elementary School.

Earlier this month, the teenager waived his right to a probable-cause hearing in Lucas County juvenile court with the understanding that he would not face a murder charge once indicted in Common Pleas court. He is in custody in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond. If convicted he faces up to 10 years in prison.

Mr. Morales’ body was discovered early that morning at Raymer Boulevard and Nevada Street. He died of head injuries, but the manner of death was under investigation.

Authorities believe the victim was struck by the handle of a hydraulic floor jack.
