A gang member who shot and killed a rival gang member at a Detroit Avenue gas station last year was sentenced today to life in prison with parole eligibility after he serves 35 years.

Quincy Allen, 22, of 1343 Oak Hill Ct., was found guilty Monday by a jury in Lucas County Common Pleas Court of murder with firearm and gang specifications and of participating in a criminal gang for the April 19 death of La’Quan Dunbar, 20. Mr. Dunbar was shot in the back of the head during a fight at the Gas & Express Mart, 2315 N. Detroit Ave.

Judge Gene Zmuda imposed the sentence.

During Allen’s six-day trial, prosecutors portrayed Mr. Dunbar’s killing as revenge for the 2012 slaying of Allen’s younger brother, Deontae, who was shot in the back after running away from a robbery.

Allen also entered an Alford plea to robbery for a May 15 holdup of a man who had given him a ride. The 35 to life sentence was for that charge in addition to the charges connected to the murder.
