Man rams unmarked law enforcement vehicle
5/6/2012DUNDEE, Mich. — A 28-year-old Washtenaw County man was in Monroe County jail Saturday, charged with using a dangerous weapon in an assault — a minivan against an unmarked police car.
No one was injured.
Dundee police said that the minivan was southbound on U.S. 23 about four miles north of the M-50 exit when it twice rammed a car, which happened to be an unmarked law enforcement vehicle driven by James Spivey, deputy chief of the Wayne County, Mich., sheriff’s office. Chief Spivey’s vehicle was disabled, but the minivan continued southbound with extensive front-end damage, including a blown right front tire.
The minivan took the exit at M-50, drove west, and crashed at Waterstadt Commerce Road. The driver ran, but about 5:35 p.m., with the help of witnesses and radio updates from Monroe County Central Dispatch, Dundee police Sgt. Tom Redmond found, chased, and arrested him.
The man faces two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, Dundee police Chief David Uhl said.
