An autopsy is pending on an infant who was delivered by emergency cesarean section when the mother was fatally injured in a Lima, Ohio, car crash.

The infant died at 10:12 p.m. Friday in the neonatal intensive care unit at Toledo Hospital, said Dr. Diane Barnett, a Lucas County deputy coroner.

His mother, Ashley Dyer, of Lima, died about 7:50 p.m. Thursday in Lima Memorial Hospital, Allen County Sheriff Sam Crish reported.

Authorities said Ms. Dyer was westbound on State Rt. 117 near the Allen County Fairgrounds about 4:35 p.m. when she lost control of her vehicle on the snowy roadway. The vehicle slid sideways and across the center line into the path of a sports-utility vehicle, driven by 18-year-old Drew Schimpf, of Lima. He was not injured, but his passenger, Kendal Schimpf, 13, was treated for non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.
