During a round-the-clock, nine-day police special enforcement period, 186 people were arrested and seven guns were seized in a targeted South End neighborhood.

The enforcement blitz started May 30 and ran through June 7. Police chose the South End, they said, because of higher-than-average numbers of crimes compared with the rest of the city. Working with Toledo police were other city departments that could address quality-of-life issues such as vacant houses, trash, and overgrown lots.
