Perrysburg’s second fire station is officially under way, after city officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday.

The long-discussed $9.8 million project is expected to be completed by next April.

“The past few years I’ve heard many times, from many people, the phrase ‘I believe it when I see it.’ I often thought, ‘I have to see it to believe it,’” Perrysburg fire Chief Rudy Ruiz said. “It got to a point where we all had no choice but to believe that it would come to fruition.”

The new station will be on Fort Meigs Road, on the site of an old Perrysburg Township fire station.
