  • One person is dead and another injured after a shooting Tuesday afternoon in South Toledo.

Toledo police late Tuesday said it appeared that Adam Beverly, 24, shot Steven Auxter, 35, and then shot himself about 4:50 p.m. in the 2800 block of Broadway.

Both men were taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital, where Mr. Beverly later died, police said. Mr. Auxter was in critical condition.

Police responded to a report of shots fired at an address on Broadway near Walbridge Park.

    Police are continuing to investigate.

Several police officers Tuesday afternoon were on the scene at a house across the street from the park. A large pool of blood could be seen on the sidewalk in front of the house.

Brian Grinonneau, a neighbor who lives in the area where the shooting occurred, said he was on the phone when he heard a “pop” and a young woman yelling.

He did not know any more details about what happened, but he described the house in question as occupied by “’70s hippies.”

“You know, the whole peace and love thing,” he said.

He added the house often hosted a “changing cast of characters” who offered to do odd jobs for money in the area. The house was well known in the neighborhood. But other than the occasional loud late night party, there was never any trouble there, Mr. Grinonneau, 57, said.

Police asked anyone with information to call the Crime Stopper program, 419-255-1111.
