The Toledo Police Department is officially 30 officers stronger after a swearing-in ceremony for the Toledo Police Academy’s 58th graduating class.

The 28 men and two women were given their badges at Owens Community College Tuesday night in front of more than 100 friends and family members. The new officers, who recently completed a 24-week class, will have their first day on the job Monday.

“We’re all excited and anticipating our first week,” said Officer Brian Heath, 33.

Ben Woody was named president of the class for his best-overall performance in the academy. Adam Knaggs was named vice president and Eric Mierzwiak was named secretary.
