SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Fire crews have rescued a shocked, tired and cold dog from a swollen Rouge River near Detroit.

TV stations WJBK, WDIV and WXYZ report rescuers used a boat to reach the dog, which was clinging to a log Wednesday afternoon.

A local veterinarian says the dog that firefighters have nicknamed Nemo is suffering from hypothermia but is expected to survive.

National Weather Service meteorologist Amos Dodson says heavy rains raised the river’s water level in that area to about 8.7 feet Wednesday afternoon, up from about 6 feet in previous days. It’s short of the flood stage of 12 feet.
