Perrysburg City Council appointed J. Todd Grayson on May 17 to the council seat that had been held by Joe Rutherford.

Mr. Rutherford had informed council that if his new job as regional director of the Ohio Department of Transportation conflicted with his ability to perform his duties that he would step down from council.

He was unable to attend several meetings and resigned as a councilman April 30.

He stated that the city of Perrysburg has some of the best leaders and managers of public money, and considered it a privilege to have been on the council. He also expressed appreciation to the voters that elected him.

David Creps, clerk of council, said that Mr. Rutherford was a good councilman.

"We hate to see Joe go," Mr. Creps said.

Mr. Grayson is to be sworn in June 7.

Councilman Maria Ermie said she expected Mr. Grayson to attend all of the council and committee meetings and show a strong interest in the position.

"He has been keeping up with all of the issues that council has been dealing with," she said.
