Perrysburg Twp. police recover stolen tools

9/29/2012

Perrysburg Township police are cataloging more that $20,000 worth of recovered tools that were reported stolen from area businesses the past two months, authorities said.

Anyone who recently bought Snap-On, Mac, or Matco tools on the classified Web site Craigslist is asked to call police at 419-874-3551, Detective James Gross said.

About 100 items have been recovered. Some markings were ground off the tools, although there still were ways to identify them, Detective Gross said.

“When you work with tools day in and day out, year in and year out, you get kind of intimate with them. ... You know your tools,” the detective said.

Break-ins were reported at T. Gray Automotive, 26040 Glenwood Rd.; SeaGate Transportation, 555 F St., and Ampoint Maintenance, 521 E St. Losses ranged between $30,000 and $75,000.

A large container of tools was seized from a Toledo location on Thursday after an advertisement for them on Craigslist.com led to a search warrant.

No arrests have been made, the detective said.
