Monroe Tim Hortons employee tests positive for hepatitis A

An employee at a Tim Hortons restaurant in Monroe has tested positive for hepatitis A.

MONROE — An employee at a Tim Hortons restaurant in Monroe has tested positive for hepatitis A, prompting the county health department to encourage those possibly exposed to get a vaccine or other treatment.

Anyone who consumed items from the restaurant at 404 S. Monroe St. from Nov. 21 through Friday is encouraged to get a hepatitis A vaccine or immune globulin treatment, according to the Monroe County Health Department.

Symptoms, which typically appear two to six weeks after exposure, include fatigue, poor appetite, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, and jaundice, according to the department. 

This is just one case in the Hepatitis A outbreak in southeast Michigan, where 583 cases and 20 deaths have been identified as of Thursday. For more information, contact the health department at 734-240-7921.
