After reading the letter by Lucas County Prosecutor Julia R. Bates on Toledo and the success of its new mayor (Feb. 7, “Mayor sets city on the right course”), I wonder: Why doesn’t Mrs. Bates do the right thing when it comes to Danny Brown?

Mr. Brown served years for a crime he didn’t commit. The judicial system cleared him and released him from prison for the crime of murder. Yet, Mrs. Bates has refused to accept these facts and, by doing so, she denies Mr. Brown the right to be compensated for years of wrongful incarceration (Feb. 9, “Man’s wrongful imprisonment lawsuit dismissed”).
She should get on the right course and admit her mistakes. Mrs. Bates is the only person who keeps this injustice going by labeling him as “a person of interest.” All of this to keep the city from paying back Mr. Brown for the time he wrongfully lost in prison.
Mrs. Bates, do the right thing. Get on the right course.
