MIS president Shelton leaving
5/13/2006INDIANAPOLIS - Brett Shelton, the president of Michigan International Speedway for the past five years and the driving force behind the recent expansion and renovation projects at the Brooklyn, Mich., track, will be leaving his post at the conclusion of the racing season.
Shelton, a native of Alabama, announced yesterday that he will be returning to his home state to enter private business. He will be replaced at MIS by Roger A. Curtis, currently the vice president of marketing and sales for California Speedway. Curtis will join the staff at MIS immediately to begin the transition.
"We have enjoyed our five, going on six, seasons at MIS immensely, which made this a difficult decision," said Shelton, who plans to move his family to Muscle Shoals, Ala. "The fans at MIS are arguably the best in racing, and we have a tremendous seasoned staff which should make the transition much easier."
Shelton served as vice-president and GM of Talladega Super-
speedway in Alabama before coming to MIS. He also worked for the Senior PGA Tour.
Curtis is a 39-year-old native of Terre Haute, Ind., who has more than 15 years of experience in motor sports. His wife is a
native of nearby Clarkson, Mich.
"Our family has enjoyed spending time together at MIS for a long time," Curtis said. "My father-in-law has been a season- ticket holder since 1971 and we've spent countless times at MIS as fans and we've been able to experience first-hand how much MIS respects the fans.
"This is also really a homecoming of sorts for our whole family."
Curtis directed California Speedway's advertising and promotions, marketing and sales, public relations and ticketing departments.
